Box Score 2 WATERVILLE, Me. – Castleton's women's tennis team advanced to the North Eastern Atlantic Conference (NEAC) East Championship game on Saturday with a win over MCLA before losing to Colby-Sawyer in the final, 6-0.
The Chargers, who earned the top seed with a 6-0 record in conference, picked up their third consecutive championship with the win over Castleton. Colby-Sawyer opened the match with three doubles victories, before recording three straight sets singles wins to claim the in the NEAC East title.
Earlier in the day, the Spartans put on an impressive performance in the semifinals match, producing four singles and three doubles victories en route to beating the third-seeded Trailblazers, 7-2.
Meghan Susslin continued her solid play in the No. 1 singles slot, picking up a 6-4, 5-7, 11-9 win. Sara Novenstern and Kayla Zsido each recorded straight sets victories, while Shannon Haggerty notched a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 4 singles match.
In doubles action, Castleton won all three matches with scores of 9-7 to help the team advance to the NEAC East Final for a fifth consecutive season.
Novenstern posted a 2-2 record in the tournament including a 7-5, 6-3 straight sets victory in the third flight singles match against MCLA. For her performance, Novenstern was named to the 2014 NEAC East All-Tournament Team.
The Spartans concluded their season with the program's best record since 2011, finishing 11-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
