The Spartans got off to a slow start despite outshooting the Pilgrims 16-2 in the first frame. It wasn't until midway through the period that the Spartans got on the board. Rachel Bombardier redirected a shot from Hannah Wright to put the home team ahead 1-0.

In the second period, Daniels continued her scoring streak, tallying a pair of goals to extend the Spartans lead to 3-0. Since returning from the holiday break, the Swedish forward has tallied seven goals in the Spartans' four games.

In the final period, Castleton tacked on a pair of power play goals. Lisa Buratynski notched the first goal of her college career, ripping a wrister to the glove side that found the net. Later in the frame, Taylor Steadman buried a rebound to give the Spartans a 5-0 lead. Rachel Bombardier and Brie Narodowy each registered assists on both goals.

NEC goalkeeper Lauren Hopps kept the Pilgrims in the contest with outstanding play the entire game. She finished with 50 saves, marking her third 50-save game of the year. The junior hit the mark in the Pilgrims earlier contest with Castleton (53) and their game against Norwich on Nov. 23 (58).

With the victory Castleton improves to 9-6-0 on the season, with a 4-2-0 mark within the ECAC East. The squad will hit the road on Friday, January 17 when they travel to UMass-Boston, and then head to St. Anselm on Saturday, January 18.
