Cobleskill, N.Y. – The Spartans took the first set on Tuesday evening but SUNY Cobleskill captured the next three to finish with a 3-1 victory over Castleton in Iorio Gymnasium. 

The Spartans won the initial set 25-23, but dropped the next three, 25-17, 25-19 and 28-26 to fall to 2-5 overall. The non-conference victory improves the Fighting Tigers overall record to 5-6 and snaps a five-game losing streak 

Sophomore Brittany Brayman led the Spartans with 13 kills and 24 digs. Classmate Amanda Chambers added a match-high 27 digs to go with three kills on the evening. Cassidy Tedeschi added nine kills and one solo block on the day while Shelby Smyth and Michaela Babineau combined for 22 assists. 

Kady Porterfield led Cobleskill 11 kills and three service aces while Amber Baker contributed a team-high 13 kills to go with 10 digs and four service aces. Brandi Persico added 10 kills and three digs on the evening. 

The Spartans return to action when they host a tri match opening with Gordon College at 11:00 a.m. then play SUNY Canton at 1:00 p.m.
