Plymouth, N.H. - Samantha Pion notched Castleton's only goal as the Spartans skated to their second consecutive overtime draw, tying Plymouth St. 1-1 on Tuesday evening.

Paula Stephens made 12 saves for the Spartans while Panthers goaltender Ali Ponte made 44 saves to keep Castleton from defeating the Panthers for the second time this season.

In the first period, the Spartans got off to a great start offensively, outshooting the Panthers 17-3 in the frame. With 10:31 remaining in the period, Samantha Pion beat Ponte to get Castleton on the board. The lone assist on the play went to BriAnna Narodowy.

In the second frame, Castleton continued to pepper Ponte, but the Panthers netminder turned away all attempts. The Spartans maintained constant offensive pressure, outshooting Plymouth St. in the second period 20-4.

Castleton held their one goal lead for a 48-minute stretch of the game, but slipped up down in the final minutes. On a Panthers power play, Plymouth St. forward Katie Landry netted the equalizer with 2:26 remaining in regulation on an assist from Meghan Cassidy. Landry slipped the puck past Stephens for her first goal of the year to tie the score at 1-1.

In the overtime period, Castleton struggled to generate any chances and found the puck in their end for the majority of the time. Stephens made four important saves in the extra frame as the Panthers drove for a winning goal. The Spartans had one quality look in the final five minutes, as BriAnna Narodowy got a shot from close range. Ponte was up to the task though, and denied the sophomore Spartan to preserve the tie.

Castleton now owns a 9-9-5 record, with a 6-5-5 record in the ECAC East. The Spartans will host Holy Cross on Friday, Feb. 15. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.
