Spartans Fall in NAC Semifinals to Maine Maritime

New London, N.H. – No. 3 seed Castleton challenged third-seeded Maine Maritime, but couldn't take a set off the Mariners as the Spartans fell 3-0 in the North Atlantic Conference Semifinals on Friday evening. 

Castleton gave Maine Maritime a run in each set but was never able to earn a win, dropping the match 25-18, 25-21 and 25-22. 

Freshman Kaylee Pratt led the Castleton offense with seven kills while sophomore Brittany Brayman added six kills and a team-high 16 digs. Sophomore Michaela Babineau added eight assists, five digs and three aces while Shelby Smyth added ten assists and ten digs. Amanda Chambers chipped in with five kills and 12 digs in the loss. 

For Maine Maritime, Gillian O'Neal was a force with 15 digs and a match-high 14 kills while hitting .297. Melissa Lail added seven kills and a team-high 17 digs and two total blocks. In all the Mariners totaled 41 kills, with six different players recording at least two. 

The Spartans conclude their season with a 10-14 record while the Mariners improve to 18-9 overall on the year. They now advance to face top seed Colby-Sawyer in the  NAC Championship on Saturday.
