Castleton Goes 1-1 to Start NAC Play

POULTNEY, Vt. – The Spartans went 1-1 on Saturday at Green Mountain College as they shut down Johnson St. but couldn't pull off a comeback victory against Lyndon St., falling 3-2. 

Castleton gave up just 24 points total against Johnson St., winning 25-13, 25-6, 25-5 and hit .297 as a team with eight errors en route to a 3-0 victory. It was a different story against the Hornets as the Spartans dropped the first set 25-23 before coming back to take the second 26-24.  Lyndon took a 2-1 lead with a 25-12 win in the third set, but Castleton won 25-13 in the fourth before falling 15-10 in the final set. 

Against Johnson, Brittany Brayman led the Spartans with eight kills and ten digs while hitting .389. Close behind her was Breannon Meuse who hit at a .667 clip with seven kills while Kaylee Pratt added three. Defensively, Kristi Lawless notched a match-high 10 digs while Alex Madsen and Shelby Smyth split the setting duties, accumulating 10 and nine assists, respectively. 

Johnson's Andrea Williams led her team with three kills, while Natasha Cordner and Domonique Carter Stanley each put down two attacks. 

Cassidy Tedeschi led the Castleton offense against Lyndon St. with 13 kills and 14 digs, but did commit ten errors. Brayman added 13 kills and 13 digs while Meuse finished with a team-high 22 digs.

Gwyneth Stahl was all over the court for the Hornets, with 23 assists and 14 digs. Abbey Greene finished with ten kills and added 18 digs while Morgan Diltz contributed ten kills and 13 digs. 

The Spartans move to 6-8 on the year and 1-1 in the North Atlantic Conference while Lyndon goes to 6-7 and 1-1 in the conference.

Castleton returns to action when they face Bay Path College next Saturday at 12 pm at Green Mountain College.
