Box Score 2 Bangor, Maine – Castleton went .500 in conference play for the third straight weekend, as the Spartans were swept by Maine Maritime to open the day but came back with a 3-0 victory of their own against host Husson to finish the afternoon.
The Spartans improve to 9-12 with the victory, matching their win total from last season, and move to 3-3 in the North Atlantic Conference. Husson is now 3-3 in the NAC, but will drop to the fourth seed in the conference tournament, due to the head-to-head loss to Castleton. The Eagles are 10-18 overall.
In the day's opening match, the Spartans couldn't match the Mariners, falling 25-11, 25-20 and 25-17. Kaylee Pratt was the team's most effective hitter, registering five kills and hitting .133. Amanda Chambers was behind her with four kills while Brittany Brayman recorded a team-high 16 digs. Shelby Smyth recorded a team-best ten assists along with two aces and four digs.
Castleton came through with a hard-fought 28-26 victory in the opening set against Husson and then took the second set 25-23. In the final set, the Eagles once again pushed the Spartans, but they came though with a 27-25 to earn the sweep.
Cassidy Tedeschi finished with nine kills and hit .316 to lead the team. Brayman had a team-high 25 digs and added six kills. Michaela Babineau was sharp with 14 assists and a career-high 15 digs while Smyth added 11 assists and four aces.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday when they travel to face Norwich at 6 pm.
