Castleton, Vt. - Blake Wardwell notched a hat trick and Rachel Preusser broke the Castleton single-season assists record as the Spartans went on to a 7-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer at Spartan Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Spartans dominated possession over the course of the game, outshooting the Chargers 41-6 in the contest. Jess Galatioto earned the win for the Spartans by making three saves in 55 minutes of time in net. Meeghan Doris relieved her in the 56th minute as the pair combined for a shutout. Jodi Dumayne put forth a stellar effort despite allowing seven goals. The Chargers' goalkeeper recorded 25 saves and did all she could to keep the Spartans' prolific attack off the board.

Wardwell kicked off the scoring with a goal in the 13th minute. Preusser broke free on a counter-attack and both forwards outsprinted the Chargers' back line to create a 2-on-0 breakaway. Preusser laid the ball off to Wardwell and the senior slotted it home to put Castleton up 1-0.

Preusser added to the tally with a goal nearly five minutes later. The forward mashed in a rebound after a scrum in front of the net to put Castleton up 2-0. Wardwell tacked on two more in the final minutes of the half, connecting with Preusser on another breakaway and then finishing a pass from Maria Stern to put the Spartans ahead 4-0 at the half.

After the break, the Wardwell-Preusser connection worked again as Blake found Rachel for another score to extend the Spartan lead to 5-0. Sophomore Emily Hudson and freshman Sarah Heffernan each added goals in the final minutes as the Spartans rolled to a 7-0 win.

Preusser's three assists on the night pushed her to 16 for the season, breaking the record of former teammate Kealy Chipman for most assists in a season. Chipman notched 14 assists last year to set the previous record. The decorated senior already holds program records in career goals, assists, and points.

Castleton improves to 8-5 on the year, with a 6-0 record in the North Atlantic Conference. They will return to action Friday night, Oct. 18 when to host Rivier to kick off Castleton's Homecoming and Family Weekend.
