Box Score Castleton, Vt. - The Spartans fell for the second consecutive year to the Colby-Sawyer Chargers in the North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division final on Saturday evening in Castleton, dropping the championship match 5-0.
The Chargers earned their second consecutive title, going undefeated through conference play for the second straight year. Castleton put up a fight against the top-seeded Chargers, but couldn't generate enough steam to topple the favorites.
In the doubles round, the Spartans were swept into a 3-0 hole. Castleton failed to win a game at the first and second flights, but Kaydeen Juaire and Taylor Reynolds took two games at the third flight. It was the closest the Spartans would come to a win in doubles play.
In singles, Castleton dropped three straight set matches to finish the championship at with a 5-0 result. Olga McIntyre fought valiantly at third singles, dropping her first set 6-4, but was leading 1-0 in the second set when the match was called. Juaire also lost her first set, but led the second set of her fifth singles match 1-0 before being called off the courts.
Castleton's Olga McIntyre was selected to the All-Tournament Team after going 2-1 on the day. She was joined by Colby-Sawyer's Elizabeth Lincoln and Tournament MVP Ashlyn Ramsay. Lyndon St. first singles player Kayla Flynn, and Thomas' Jessica Bowen were named to the All-Tournament Team as well.
With the loss, Castleton finishes their season with a record of 5-10, and a regular season conference record of 4-1. The Spartans roster will remain completely intact next season as the squad will not graduate any players this year.
