Castleton Surges Past Thomas 75-39

Waterville, Maine – Thomas managed to keep it close early but the Spartans pulled away, finishing with the 75-39 victory at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium on Friday evening in North Atlantic Conference action.

Castleton shot 43.3 percent from the field and forced 27 turnovers as the team improved to 17-1 and 10-1 in the NAC. Thomas shot just 26.7 percent from the floor as the team dropped to 4-12 and 3-8 in conference play.

Tarryn Bolognani scored a team-high 16 points with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Stephanie Bull and Meghan O'Sullivan joined her in double figures with 12 and ten points respectively.

The Spartans kicked off the game with a 13-1 run to give them a comfortable lead from the onset. The Terriers cut the margin down to as little as five in the opening stanza with a layup by Megan Pelletier (Winslow, Maine) at the 11:04 mark. Castleton then went on another run over the final 11 minutes to finish with a 40-21 lead at the break.

The second half was much of the same as the Spartans scored ten of the first 15 points after the break. The Castleton offense continued to push the pace and finished with the 36-point victory.

Jade Desroches added nine points and six rebounds off the bench as 12 different players scored at least two points.

Castleton returns to action on Saturday at 3 pm when the team faces the Univesity of Maine at Farmington.
