1/22/2013 12:00:00 AM

Williamstown, Mass. - Castleton skated to an even draw in regulation against the Williams Ephs, reaching overtime for the third time in four games, but fell 2-1 in the extra frame.

Freshman Jess Cameron turned away 36 shots in her first career start for the Spartans, but it wasn't enough as the Ephs converted in the overtime period to sink the Spartans.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first period, with the Ephs outshooting Castleton 13-10. The scoring began in the second period when the Spartans were a man down. On the power play, Sam Weinstein slipped one past Cameron to give the Ephs a 1-0 lead. Caitlin Conlon and Cristina Bravi earned assists on the play. Williams held their 1-0 advantage for the remainder of the second period, outshooting the Spartans 11-8 in the frame.

In the third, the Spartans clamored to tie the game with a goal. Their breakthrough finally came at the 13:38 mark when Nicoline Jensen scored her third goal in four games to knot the score at 1-1. The final six minutes of the game went by without a score, and the Spartans were sent to their third overtime session in four games.

In extra time, the Ephs' leading-scorer Gabrielle Vukasin stepped up to bury the game-winner. Vukasin scored her ninth goal of the year with 1:20 remaining in the period, earning the 2-1 win for Williams.

The Spartans drop to 7-7-3 on the year, and will return to ECAC East conference play when they take on St. Michael's at home on Friday, January 25. Castleton will wear their special pink jerseys and will collect donations for the fight against breast cancer as they Pink the Rink Friday night.
