Eagles Fly Past Spartans

Poultney, Vt. – Husson University scored a straight-sets victory over Castleton State College to sweep both opponents in the women's volleyball quad match held at Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon at the Eagle Dome.  The Eagles notched set victories of 25-22, 26-24 and 25-23.

Hannah Olstad led Husson (10-5 overall, 2-0 NAC) on offense recording 15 kills on the afternoon, hitting at a .289 clip. The senior also added two service aces. Alexandra deHertogh supplemented the offense with nine kills of her own.  Defensively, the Eagles received impressive efforts from Kelsey Burill and Aleta Johnson who both notched 13 digs.

The Spartans (3-7 overall, 0-2 NAC) received seven kills from Nicole Valastro (So. Glens Falls, N.Y.) and five kills from freshman Maggie Smith (Holden, Mass.). Valastro also had a good afternoon at the service line, tallying a match-high four aces.  Defensively, Castleton was anchored by Amanda Chambers (Lake George, N.Y.) who led all players with 20 digs.  Ruth Tomlinson (Huntington, Vt.) also provided 11 digs to the defensive effort.

Husson out hit Castleton in hitting efficiency by a .254 to .029 margin, yet Castleton outperformed Husson in both service reception percentage (.926-.875) and service percentage (.914-.895)

Husson returns home to face Colby on Oct. 3, while Castleton returns to Green Mountain again next week to play the Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 4.
