Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Castleton utilized a balanced attack that saw 13 different players score to hand Maine Maritime a 77-58 setback in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Friday evening.
The Spartans (13-7, 12-1 NAC) dropped in 13-of-28 treys in the first half to pull away early and complete the regular season sweep of the Mariners (2-16, 1-10 NAC). Greg Huges (West Rutland, Vt.) bombed a pair of threes in the first two minutes en route to 10 points. He gave his team a 6-0 jump, while setting the tone for the evening. Mark Comstock (Rutland, Vt.) banged a three midway through the half to make it an 18-point game. He finished with a team-high 11 points.
Castleton built a 55-27 lead by the break and went deep into the bench early in the second half. The Spartans' reserves gave Castleton 48 points, including nine from freshman Doug Krouse (Reading, Pa.), who went 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Junior Dammy Mustapha (Bellows Falls, Vt.) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while senior David Cochrane (Virginia Beach, Va.) collected eight caroms and scored seven points.
Maine Maritime got 17 points from Andy Ball (Hermon, Maine) and 10 more from Brandon Theriault (East Millinocket, Maine). Shawn Silva (Attleboro, Mass.) pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked three shots on a five-point night for the frosh.
Castleton heads to Bangor to face Husson in NAC action beginning at 3 p.m.
