2/18/2012 12:00:00 AM

BOSTON, Mass. - Castleton scored early in the first period but couldn't find the net again as they settled for the 1-1 overtime draw with UMass-Boston in the team's regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

The tie puts a cap on the most successful regular season in program history as the Spartans finish with a 9-13-2 record overall. Castleton's 8-8-2 mark in the ECAC East is also the best mark in program history. UMass-Boston moves to 7-14-3 overall and and 5-11-2 in conference action with the tie.

It was the Spartans who got on the board first, as Meagan Hulbert (Barre, Vt.) scored an unassisted goal just 5:30 into the opening period.

The score remained 1-0 until the Beasons scored within the last second of the second period on a goal by Brittany Usmail (New Hartford, N.Y.).

Freshman netminder Paula Stephens (Seattle, Wash.) didn't allow another goal and finished the afternoon with 32 saves in net. Her counterpart, Leah Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn.), was forced to make 30 stops in net.

Castleton returns to action on Saturday when they go on the road for a yet to be specified ECAC East quarterfinal matchup.
