Box Score Bangor, Maine – The Castleton men's basketball team couldn't find the range on Friday night as they fell 94-69 to Husson in North Atlantic Conference action in Bangor.
The Spartans shot just 35.6 percent in the opening 20 minutes as they dropped to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the NAC play. Husson improved to 2-3 overall with the win and 1-1 in conference action.
Castleton finished the game shooting 39.1 percent from the field and just 6-for-29 from beyond the arc. The Spartans were also outrebounded by a 41-36 margin and committed 13 turnovers compared to just ten for the Eagles. Husson, meanwhile, shot 50.0 percent from the field and hit 12 threes.
Logan White paced the Castleton attack with 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting, including three triples. Dammy Mustapha was the only other Spartan in double figures, with 11 points and four rebounds. Chris Barletta chipped in with six points and seven assists.
Jacob Moore led the Husson offense with 15 points and nine rebounds while Marc Zaharchuk came off the bench to post 14 points and six rebounds in 13 minutes of action.
The Spartans opened the game on fire, scoring the first nine points in just 1:57, with the final two coming on a jumper by White. Husson managed to tie it up at 11 just three and a half minutes and took the lead on a three by Moore at the 15:00 minute mark.
Castleton responded with six straight to grab a 17-14 advantage; however, the Eagles countered with an 8-0 run for the 22-17 lead. The Spartans closed with five, 29-24, on a jumper by Tanner Darwell at the 8:33 mark, but it was all Husson for the remainder of the half as the Eagles outscored Castleton 26-11 to take a 55-35 lead.
In the second half, the Spartans clawed back within eight, as White went on a personal 9-2 run, to make it 57-65 with 13:06 left in the contest. Castleton wouldn't get any closer as an 11-0 run put the game out of reach and Husson finished with the 94-69 victory.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they face Maine Maritime at 3 pm.
