Spartans Fall to Williams

Williamstown, Mass. – The Spartans were unable to get their offense rolling on Wednesday night as they fell to Williams by a 96-52 margin at Chandler Gym. 

Castleton shot just 24.6 percent from the field and scored a season-low 52 points as the team dropped to 3-3 on the season. Williams made 58.2 percent of its shots from the field to improve to 7-1 on the season. 

Chad Copeland scored a team-high nine points and added four rebounds. Freshman Casey McGraw chipped in with eight points and six rebounds while senior Cory Kimball also scored eight. 

The Spartans actually grabbed an early lead in the game. After going down 5-0 in the first minute, Castleton broke through on a triple by Copeland. Dammy Mustapha hit a layup at the 16:42 mark to tie the game and McGraw followed with a three on the next possession for the 8-5 Spartan lead. 

Williams responded with a 6-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. The Ephs wouldn't trail again, though a shot from beyond the arc by Logan White brought Castleton back within two at 15-13.  Williams immediately followed with 13-0 run to take a 28-13 lead with 11:04 in the period. The Ephs outscored the Spartans 18-11 over the final 11 minutes for the 46-24 halftime lead. 

In the second half, Williams pushed its lead to 31, 59-28, just 4:07 into the half. The Spartans cut the deficit to 30 with 11 minutes to play off back-to-back threes by Doug Krouse and Kimball; however the Ephs controlled the remainder of the contest and cruised to victory. 

The Spartans return to action on Friday at 7:30 pm when they travel to play Husson.
