Spartans Fall to Albertus Magnus

Buzzards Bay, Mass. – Albertus Magnus used a balanced attack to overwhelm Castleton in the second leg of their tri-match at Mass.-Maritime, getting statistical kills from nine different players and defeated the Spartans 3-1.

Castleton jumped out to a fast lead, defeating the Falcons 25-15 in the first set, but could not maintain their dominance. Albertus Magnus went on to win the next three sets, 25-18, 25-15, and 25-21 respectively, earning the win.

Nicole Acerra (East Haven, Conn.) led the Falcons attack with 10 kills,  while Kelsey Pendegast (Shelton, Conn.) notched seven kills. The team earned at least one kill from nine out of ten players on their roster.  Krista LaBissoniere (Meriden, Conn.) led the squad with 22 assists.

Castleton's attack against the Falcons was led by Sarah Wheeler (Kinderhook, N.Y.), who had ten kills and Amanda Chambers (Lake George, N.Y.), with seven kills. Setters Bridget McCarthy (Nashua, N.H.) and Shelby Smyth (Chelmsford, Mass.) combined for 23 assists in the match. Chambers led the squad with 25 digs.

The Spartans ended their evening with a split, falling to Albertus Magnus after beating host Mass.-Maritime and moving to 5-8 on the season. They will return to action Saturday, October 13, with a NAC tri-match against Lyndon St. and host Johnson St.
