Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Senior Christine Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) poured in a season-high 23 points to lead Castleton to a 75-37 blowout over Lyndon Tuesday evening in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball action at Stannard Gymnasium.
Jaques was deadly from downtown, connecting on five triples and dishing out six assists without a turnover in 35 minutes of action. Senior Vanessa Powers (Marshfield, Vt.) and sophomore Alyssa Leonard (Amherst, Mass.) added 14 points each for the Spartans who improved to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the NAC with the win.
Castleton used a balanced offense to take a 21-9 lead eight minutes into the contest and saw its lead balloon as high at 24 before going into the break with a 44-22 lead. The Spartans broke open the game by scoring the first seven points of the second half to take a 51-22 lead just a minute in. Lyndon never got closer than 23 the rest of the way and Castleton shut out the Hornets over the final 3:41 to finish with the 38-point victory.
Junior Tarryn Bolognani (Whitingham, Vt.) also had a strong all-around game with 11 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Kelly Conway (Rutland, Vt.) added six assists while Heather Murdough (Hillsboro, N.H.) had seven boards and three steals off the bench.
Donna Lawson had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Hornets and Danielle LaFont had 11 points and three assists. The loss drops Lyndon to 4-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they travel to take on New England College at 7:30 p.m.
