POULTNEY, Vt. – All 14 players found their way into the scoring column including 39 points from the bench as the Castleton State College Spartans claimed a 79-51 victory over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball action Tuesday night in the Eagle dome.
Castleton (12-9, 7-3) shot 53.2 percent from the floor on the night while holding Green Mountain (0-15, 0-10) to just 32 percent. Mark Comstock (Rutland, Vt.) finished with a team-high 11 points on 3-of-7 seven shooting in only 16 minutes of action for the Spartans while GMC's Ben LaCure (Hudson, Mass.) notched 17 to lead all-scorers, ending the night 5-of-12 from beyond the arc.
The Spartans steadily built a double-digit lead throughout the first half, carrying a 40-24 advantage into the interval. LaCure kept the Eagles within striking distance, amassing 14 points including draining four from beyond arc.
Castleton began the second half right where they left off, continuing to extend their lead, settling for a 28 point victory.
Kevin Eisenberg (Moultonborough, N.H.) was the only other Spartan in double-figure scoring with 10 points. Castleton finished the night with 18 assists and held a plus eight margin in the rebounding column.
Felix Rojas (Ridgewood, N.Y.) knocked in a season-high 12 points for the Eagles including a 6-of-7 effort from the charity stripe.
The Eagles return to action Thursday when they head to Middlebury College at 7:00 pm while the Spartans hit the court Friday evening at 6:00 when they host Maine Maritime Academy.
