Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Junior Trevor Kotrady (North Clarendon, Vt.) scored 5:21 into overtime to propel Castleton State College to a 1-0 win over the uNiversity of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Looking for the team's first overtime win of the season, Kotrady took a cross from sophomore John Kendall (Springfield, Vt.) and headed it past keeper Derek Reilly (Hollis, N.H.) to give Castleton the dramatic victory. The goal was Kotrady's team-leading 10th of the season.
The Spartans failed to score in regulation, despite out-shooting the Beavers 13-7 overall and 9-5 in the final 45 minutes of regulation and overtime. Sophomore goalkeeper Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) made two saves in net for his fourth shutout of the season.
Castleton improves to 4-0 in the North Atlantic Conference and extends the Spartans' regular-season conference unbeaten streak to 15 games, dating back to the 2009 season. Castleton also improved to 7-4-1 overall with the win.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday when they take on Thomas University in Maine at 2:30 p.m.
