Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Sophomore swingman Mark Comstock (Rutland, Vt.) notched a game-high 19 points and hauled in seven caroms to guide Castleton over Maine Maritime, 49-44, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium.
The Spartans improve to 7-7 overall and 3-1 in NAC play. The Mariners fall to 7-7 and 2-2 in the NAC.
Senior guard Mike Knight (Spring Valley, N.Y.) chipped in seven points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal while and Matt Cooney (Washingtonville, N.Y.) while Tyler Ackley (Scotia, N.Y.) and David Cochrane (Virginia Beach, Va.) each contributed four assists.
For Maine Maritime, Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, Maine) who scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Dom Drake (Brewer, Maine) chipped in with 13 points and six assists.
Both teams combined to shoot 30% from the floor and 19% from the three point line, but Castleton went on a late 6-0 run to close out the game and secure the win. The Mariners trailed 43-41 with 5:40 left on the clock before Drake hit a runner to tie the game at 43 with 5:31 remaining in the game. The Spartans put the clamps on the Mariner offense and never gave up another point while scoring six points of the own.
Castleton returns to action on Tuesday, January 25 at home against Green Mountain College in NAC action starting at 8 pm.
