Spartans Sweep Non-Conference Tri-Match at Southern Vermont

Bennington, Vt. - Down two sets to none versus Southern Vermont in match one, Castleton rallied to defeat the Mountaineers, 3-2, by scores of 20-25, 21-25, 25-20, 27-25, 15-13 to earn its first win of the season and rode that moment into match two beating Curry, 3-1, by scores of 25-16, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19 in non-conference tri-match action on Sunday.

The Spartans improve to 2-4 overall on the season.

MATCH ONE: Castleton 3, Southern Vermont 2

Sophomore Ashley Kepaa (No. Attleboro, Mass.) led the Spartans attack with 14 kills and one service ace. Kepaa also compiled a team-high 16 digs on defense. Freshman Grace Schreiber (Cheshire, Conn.) had an 11 kill, four dig and two solo block match, while Sarah Wheeler (Kinderhook, N.Y.) had 10 kills, three assists, five service aces and 11 digs. Chelsea Schlosser (Endicott, N.Y.) had a team-high seven service aces and finished second in digs with 15.

MATCH TWO: Castleton 3, Curry 1

Schlosser paced the offense with a game-high 14 assists, eight kills, three service aces and 10 digs. Kepaa matched Schlosser in kills with eight total, connected for two service aces, had a team-high 15 digs and picked up two solo blocks. Schreiber contributed with six kills and two digs while Wheeler had four kills, two service aces and 10 digs.

Castleton returns to action on Thursday when the Spartans play host to SUNY-Cobleskill at 7:00 p.m.
