NEW LONDON, N.H.. - The Castleton State College women's volleyball dropped a pair of two non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon at Colby-Sawyer College. The Spartans fell to Anna Maria, 3-0, by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-19 in match two and lost to Colby-Sawyer, 3-0, by scores of 25-3, 25-17 and 25-11 in match three.
Anna Maria 3, Castleton 0 - 25-23, 25-18, 25-19
Anna Maria sophomore Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) led all players with 10 kills. Sophomore Melissa Stedman (Mason, N.H.) added six kills and seven digs for the AMCATS. Robbie had a match-high 15 digs. Castleton was led by freshman Sarah Wheeler (Kinderhook, N.Y.) who had seven kills and seven digs.
Anna Maria evens their record to 5-5, while Castleton falls to 0-3. Anna Maria continues TCCC play on Tuesday with a 7:00 pm start time at the University of New England.
Colby-Sawyer 3, Castleton 0 - 25-3, 25-17, 25-11
Doody had another stellar game in the Colby-Sawyer win. She recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, while hitting .647. Senior Stef Turner (Boxborough, Mass.) hit .667 and recorded nine kills. Freshman Julia Yee (Quincy, Mass.) registered 10 service aces. The Spartans were led by freshman Grace Schreiber (Cheshire, Conn.) who had six kills. Freshman Chelsea Schlosser (Endicott, N.Y.) tallied seven assists, five digs and three aces.
Colby-Sawyer (5-4) will host Gordon on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm. Castleton (0-4) plays a tri-match at Southern Vermont on Sunday with matches against the host and Curry.
