Box Score Plattsburgh, N.Y. - The Castleton State College men's soccer team was narrowly defeated by Plattsburgh State, 1-0 in the 104th minute of play Wednesday night in non-conference action.
Two-time All-American Bart Misiak scored his first goal of the season with 6 minutes remaining in the second overtime. The game-winning goal was set up by a corner kick. Chris Taylor's delivery found Misiak, who came up from his back position, about 10 yards out and he headed the shot high into the left corner of the net. That was Misiak's first goal since his freshman year of 2007.
Plattsburgh State has not allowed a goal at home in its last 723 minutes and 35 seconds, but Castleton had its chances. The Spartans nearly got on the scoreboard in the 41st minute when Josh Costa was stymied by Andy Heighington at close range.
Plattsburgh had the first solid opportunity in the 7th minute when Nate Koenemann made a diving stop to his left on a curling blast by Pat Shaughnessy. Then 17 minutes later, Taylor hit the crossbar from 22 yards out.
Plattsburgh held a convincing 27-9 edge in shots and a14-5 margin in corner kicks, Koenemann and the Spartan defense held strong for much of the contest.
Koenemann finished with seven saves while Heighington earned his fourth shutout of the season.
Castleton returns home for a 2:00 p.m. match-up with Potsdam State on Saturday.
