Castleton rolls over Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sarah Flore (Springfield, Vt.) scored scored a pair of goals and Kealy Chipman (Bellows Falls, Vt.) added a goal and two assists as Castleton State College rolled to a 4-0 win over Western New England College Sunday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action.

Flore has now scored two goals in three-straight games, all Spartan wins. The senior midfielder made it 2-0 with just less than five minutes remaining in the first half, converting a Chipman assist into her fifth goal of the season. Four minutes into the second half Flore again hooked up with Chipman to push the lead to 3-0.

Chipman got herself on the board with just over 10 minutes to play, sending home an assist from Stephanie Paproski (Newtown, Conn.) to put the game away.

Alisha Robert (Grafton, N.H.) scored what proved to be the game winner just 7:21 into the contest, scoring her first collegiate goal unassisted.

Castleton (3-1) out-shot the host Golden Bears 21-2 and held a decisive 10-1 advantage in penalty corners in the first half. For the game the Spartans won both battles 39-21 and 13-6 respectively.

WNEC freshman goalie Brittney O'Brien (Carver, Mass.) made 26 saves in her collegiate debut.

Siobhan Whittemore (Springfield, Vt.) stopped the lone shot that came her way in the first half. Bridget Dusha (Greenwish, N.Y.) was tested in the second half, but made 14 saves to preserve the shutout.

Castleton will host New England College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
