CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton State College women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match-up on Wednesday in three straight sets to Norwich University by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-19 in its season opener at Glenbrook Gymnasium.

The Cadets improve to 1-0 on the season while the Spartans fall to 0-1.

MaryRose Meany (Goshen, N.Y.) led Norwich offensively with six kills while teammate Thea Evans (Glencoe, N.M.) dished out 10 assists and tallied five digs.

April Byllardt (Stormville, N.Y.) pitched in with six service aces and seven digs offensively.

Castleton was led by freshman Sarah Wheeler (Kinderhook, N.Y.) with a six kill, one service ace and a game-high 16 digs performance.

Ashley Kepaa (No. Attleboro, Mass.) notched six kills and three service aces in the loss for the Spartans.

Castleton returns to action next Wednesday on September 8 against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
