Box Score

Castine, ME – Mike Knight (Spring Valley, NY) led 10 different Spartans in the scoring column with 13 points as Castleton rolled to a 66-46 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball action Friday evening. With the win, Castleton improves to 16-8 overall and 10-3 in conference play, earning the second seed - and the first round bye that accompanies it - in the upcoming NAC Tournament.

Jared Paul (Tampa, FL), Mark Comstock (Rutland, VT) and Derick Faragon (Schenectady, NY) each tallied 11 points to aid the Spartan offense. Castleton shot 50.9% from the field, led by an efficient 6-of-8 performance from Knight, and 5-of-8 from Comstock.

Defensively the Spartans limited Maine Maritime (6-18, 2-11) to just 37.7% shooting in the lopsided win. Ben Russell (Farmington, ME) paced the Mariners with 13 points, while Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, ME) added 11.

Castleton raced out to an 18-2 lead over the opening seven-minutes-and-fifteen seconds, spurred by six points from Comstock. The Mariners battled back, cutting the lead to 30-21 at halftime, but Castleton proved to be too much in the second half, pushing its lead to as many as 22 before settling for the 20-point margin.

The Spartans wrap up their regular season tomorrow afternoon with a 4:00 p.m. tip-off at Husson University.
