NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Castleton State College placed nine different players in the scoring column, including four in double-figures en route to a 70-49 win over Norwich University in non-conference women's basketball action Monday evening at Andrews Hall.

Castleton (5-3) sophomore Tarryn Bolognani (Whitingham, Vt.) led all scorers with 15 while Christine Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) added 13 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. Alyssa Leonard (Amherst, Mass.) and Kristie Dunchus (West Rutland, Vt.) each chipped in 13 points.

Norwich (5-4) was led by Christine Daniels (Concord, N.H.) who paced the Cadets with 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Karissa Doyon (Beecher Falls, Vt.) and Andrea Vogt (Dedham, Mass.) added 12 and 13 respectively.

A Doyon three-pointer made it 3-2 just one minute and 12 seconds into the game, but Castleton reeled off the next nine-straight points and never looked back. A pair of Jaques three-pointers sandwiched by a Bolognani lay-up and Leonard free throw accounted for the early run.

Castleton pushed its lead to double-digits by the 12-minute mark at 17-7 on a Leonard lay-in, and saw it balloon to as many as 17 (31-14) just five minutes later after another Jaques three, before settling in for a 39-23 lead at halftime.

The Spartans led 43-23 after a Megan Johnson (Rutland, Vt.) lay-up with 18:10 remaining in the contest, but Norwich outscored Castleton 12-6 over the next four minutes to bring the Cadets within 14. After a Castleton timeout, the Spartans reeled off the next 12-straight points and saw their lead grow to 61-35 before a pair of Doyon free throws ended the surge.

Dunchus was 6-for-7 from the field as Castleton shot 46.4 (26-56) percent for the game, including a 17-for-34 performance in the first half.

Norwich struggled to find its rhythm against the Spartan defense, making just 14-of-62 attempts from the field and 3-of-19 from beyond the three-point arch.

Castleton is off until after the new year when the Spartans travel to Kissimmee, Florida to participate in the ECAC Holida Festival. Castleton will take on Colby on January 2 at 11 am, followed by a 2:30 pm date with Salem State on January 3.
