Rutland, Vt. – The Castleton State College women's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against Plymouth St. in ECAC East action on Friday night at Spartan Arena on Fall Sports Appreciation Night.

A ceremonial puck drop with Panthers' forward Bri Davis (Framingham, Mass.) and Spartans' forward Amy Costa (Bristol, R.I.) kicked off the festivities that honored several fall athletes in attendance.

Castleton moves to 2-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the ECAC East. Plymouth St. goes to 0-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the ECAC East.

The Spartans got on the scoreboard first as freshman Stephanie Bardell (Erwina, Pa.) beat Panthers' goalie Ali Ponte (Richmond, Hill, Ont.) glove side at 3:42 of the first period for an early 1-0 advantage.

Plymouth St. answered back at 8:36 as Meghan Cassidy (Somerville, N.J.) put home a loose puck in front of the net behind Castleton netminder Katharyn Dembowski (Elkridge, Md.) to tie the score at 1-1.

After a scoreless second period, Davis put the Panthers ahead 2-1 at 9:49 with a wrist shot from the slot that slipped through Dembowski into the back of the net. Allison Collins (Murrieta, Calif.) assisted on the tally.

One minute and 10 seconds later, the Spartans evened the scored at 2-2 on the power play as Martini drove home a slapshot from the point on assists by teammates Costa and Eileen Coyne (No. Attleboro, Mass.).

With 3:45 remaining in the third, Ponte kept the score at 2-2 robbing Castleton forward Jade Werger (Maple Ridge, B.C.) on a breakaway chance to eventually force overtime.

Plymouth St. outshot the Spartans 4-0 in overtime but Dembowski made all four stops to preserve the tie. Dembowski finished the night with 26 saves while Ponte turned away 28 shots on net.

Castleton returns to action tomorrow, at Spartan Arena, in an ECAC East contest against Southern Maine at 3:00 p.m.
