Castleton Splits Tri-Match, Clinches Home Quarterfinal Match

FARMINGTON, Maine - The Castleton State College women's volleyball team split a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matches Saturday, falling to University of Maine-Farmington 3-1, but rebounding for a 3-2 win over Green Mountain College.

The Spartans wrap up their NAC regular season slate at 7-11 overall, 3-3 in conference play and will host Green Mountain on Saturday in a NAC Quarterfinal match at a time to be determind.

MATCH ONE: FARMINGTON 3, CASTLETON 1

Farmington totaled 18 aces in taking a 3-1 victory over the Spartans.

Mitchell notched five aces for the Beavers, while Walls added four. Mitchell, again, paced Farmington's attack with 13 kills followed by Vadnais at nine.

Ashley Kepaa (North Attleboro, Mass.) notched match highs of 15 kills and 14 digs for Castleton, while Grace Schreiber (Cheshire, Conn.) and Chelsea Schlosser (Argyle, N.Y.) scored nine and eight kills, respectively.

MATCH TWO: CASTLETON 3, GREEN MOUNTAIN 2

The Spartans went error-free on attack (eight kills in 15 attempts) in the deciding set to post a win over Green Mountain.

Kepaa led Castleton with a match-best 15 kills to go along with eight digs, while Schreiber enjoyed a .500 hitting percentage (11-3-16) and Schlosser had nine kills and 10 digs.

Chanleigh Casey (Hartford, N.Y.) registered nine kills for the Eagles, while Egan had eight kills and the top dig total at 13.
