Castleton pounds St. Joseph (Vt.) 14-0 in season finale

RUTLAND, Vt. - Josh Costa (Sutton, Mass.), Nick Hallett (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and Sean Leggett (Mechanicville, N.Y.) each registered three goals as Castleton cruised to a 14-0 win over College of St. Joseph (Vt.) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action.

With the win, Castleton wraps up its regular season at 13-5 and will take the top seed into next week's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament.

Costa put the Spartans on the board just 42 seconds into the contest and followed it up with his second of the gamefive minutes later. Trevor Kotrady (North Clarendon, Vt.) sandwiched another Costa tally with two goals of his own, and Castleton led 5-0 just 14 minutes into the contest.

From there the Spartans cruised, emptying their bench and posessing the ball for much of the contest. Billy Lund (Monson, Mass.) scored once and Hallett added a pair before Zac Conlogue (Farmington, Maine) rounded out the first half scoring.

Leggett scored all three of his markers in the second frame, and Hallett finished off his hat trick with five minutes remaining in the contest. John Kendall (Springfield, Vt.) and David Devost (Hartford, Vt.) also found the back of the net.

Andy LaCroix (Jamaica, Vt.) started in net and made two saves before being lifted in favor of Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) who put the finishing touches on the shutout with three saves over the final 45 minutes.

Castleton will play hos to the winner of the Lyndon State (4) vs Maine Maritime (5) quarterfinal game on Saturday, October 30 at a time still to be determined.
