Bradford nets 21 points, Castleton falls to Husson in conference action

Castleton, VT – Senior Brock Bradford (Kenduskeag, ME) led all scorers with 21 points to lead Husson University past the Castleton State College men's basketball team, 92-77, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at Glenbrook Gymnasium on Friday night.

Husson improves to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the NAC. The Spartans fall to 8-6 (2-1 NAC).

For the Eagles, Matt MacKenzie (Warren, ME) chipped in with 16 points shooting 7-8 from the field and Joshua Jones (Jefferson, ME) notched 13 points and brought down a team-leading eight rebounds.

Derick Faragon (Schnectady, NY), Mike Knight (Spring Valley, NY) and Greg Hughes (West Rutland, VT) led the Spartans respectively on offense turning in 17 points apiece.

Faragon went 8-out-10 from the floor while Knight led the squad on the boards with 10.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and never looked back. Matt Cummings (Howland, ME) threaded the needle at 17:08 of the first with a layup under a Spartans' defender for the seven point gap.

Castleton responded with a 6-0 run spearheaded by the Knight, Hughes and Faragon combo with Faragon cutting the deficit to one point at 16:09 with a jumper in the paint.

Husson pushed the pace late in the first half spreading the margin to as many as 11 points before ending the half with a 44-35 lead.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 13 point lead as Bradford nailed one of his four 3-pointers at 13:37 to make it 58-41.

David Cochrane (Virginia Beach, VA) made it a nine point deficit at 11:01 with a 3-ball but the Spartans never cut the gap to single digits again from there on out.

Castleton returns to action tomorrow against Maine Maritime for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
