Box Score Johnson, VT – The Castleton State College men's basketball team fell 84-62 at Johnson State College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Tuesday evening at Carter Gymnasium.
Senior forward Bobby Shedd surpassed the 1,000 career-point mark and recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Badgers.
Shedd's milestone came at the 12:05 mark of the first half on an up-and-under move in the middle of the lane that rolled around the hoop and in and cut the Castleton lead to one at 20-19.
Castleton (2-17, 1-7 NAC) jumped out to a 18-13 lead with 12:42 to play before the Johnson State (11-7, 5-3 NAC) bench sparked a 14-5 run to allow the Badgers a 27-23 lead. A Ralph Celestin three-point field goal with 6:25 remaining the first half gave Castleton its final lead of the night at 33-32. Johnson completed in the first stanza on a 10-4 spurt to go to the locker room with a 42-37 lead.
Shedd's 20 and 10 came on 9-of-14 shooting. Joining him in double-figures were John Foley with 17 points, Nate Dodge with 11 points, and Michael Bosch and Leandro Martinez each added 10 points.
Pacing Castleton was freshman Keith Schneider with 14 points while senior Kevin Cayea scored 10 points.
Johnson State will host another in-state foe in St. Joseph (Vt.) on Thursday at home at 7:30 pm in non-conference action. Castleton will travel to Lyndon State College on Saturday for a 2 pm tip-off.
