Box Score Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College men's basketball team could not hang on to a three-point halftime edge and succumbed to league-leading Husson 89-74 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Glenbrook Gymnasium Friday night.
The Spartans led 35-32 at halftime, thanks in large part to 13 points from Kevin Cayea and 11 points and nine rebounds from Marcus Hass.
Husson was able to battle back, and after taking a 43-41 lead with 17:12 remaining, never trailed again. The Eagles reeled off 32 points over the next 10 minutes, capped by a Jay Urhin dunk to take a commanding 75-57 lead. Matt McKenzie scored 15 of his game-high 30 over that span, and Brock Bradford added a pair of three-pointers to help pull away.
Bradford finished with 11 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Blaine Meehan and Fabian Figueroa each added 11 points as Husson improves to 14-10 overall and 11-2 in conference play.
Hass finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the 2-22 (1-12 NAC) Spartans. Cayea finished with 17 points and seven assists.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm. The Spartans wrap up their season when they play host to Maine Maritime Academy, while Husson will travel to Green Mountain College, looking ot lock up the top-seed in the upcoming NAC Tournament.
