Box Score Annandale-On-Hudson – The Castleton State College men's basketball team fell in the championship round of the Raptor Classic Tournament hosted by Bard College, 85-76 to Medgar Evers.
Castleton trailed 43-41 at halftime, but outscored Medgar Evers 15-11 over the first six minutes of the second half, and took a two-point lead on a Mark Comstock (Rutland, VT) dunk with 13:42 remaining in the contest. A Ronald Holloway three-pointer gave Medgar Evers a 57-56 lead on the ensuing possession, but Comstock scored once again to grab the lead back for the Spartans. It was the last time Castleton led however, as a Medgar Evers scored nine-straight points over the next two minutes to take a lead it would never relinquish.
Derick Faragon (Schenectady, NY) scored a game-high 21 points to lead Castleton, while Comstock and Jared Paul (Tampa, FL) each added 14 off the Spartan bench. Mike Knight (Spring Valley, NY) also found double-figures for Castleton with 12.
Kallai Sharpe led Medgar Evers with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers. Jovan Deare and Marquis Jones each turned in double-double performances with Deare producing 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Jones tossing in 13 points and grabbing 10 boards including eight on the offensive end.
Castleton will break for the semester, returning home on January 3 to take on Skidmore at 4:00 pm.
