Castleton gets first NAC win, 72-65 at Maine Maritime

Castine, ME - The Castleton State College men's basketball team picked up its first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win, with a 72-65 triumph over host Maine Maritime Academy at Margaret Smith Gymnasium.

Kevin Cayea led four Spartans in double figures with 20 points, as Castleton improves to 2-12 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Castleton trailed by 11, 28-17 with 9:24 to go in the first half, but the Spartans ended the half on a 21-8 run to take a slim 38-36 lead into intermission. Cayea keyed the run, canning three of his game-high four-three pointers during that span.

The Spartans never relinquished the lead and hung on for the 7-point win. With the loss, MMA drops to 5-10 on the season, and 1-3 in conference. Derek DiFrederico led the Mariners with 17 points, while Mike Wharff had 13 and Paul Campbell chipped in with 11.

Marcus Hass had 16 points and a game high 11 rebounds, while Cameron Bodine and Seth Harrington had 15 and 10 respectively.
