Castleton falls at New England College 4-2

Henniker, NH-The Castleton State College women's ice hockey team dropped a 4-2 contest at New England College in ECAC East action.The Pilgrims scored three second period goals as they improve to 11-7-1 overall and 8-5-1 in the ECAC East. The loss drops the Spartans to 5-11-3 overall and 4-7-3 in the ECAC East.

The two teams would battle through a scoreless opening period as the Pilgrims would hold the edge in shots out shooting the Spartans 15-8. NEC's Sarah Tracey started the scoring early in the second period netting her 10th goal of the season at the 4:44 mark. Tracey struck again scoring just minutes later assisted by Sarah Graham and Emily Tanguay putting the Pilgrims up two goals. NEC's Jamie Collins scored her sixth goal of the season at the 12:05 mark to give NEC the 3-0 lead heading into the final period.

Castleton battled back early in the third with Steph Purinton scoring off a nice assist from Adrianna Riggio just 3:14 into the period. The Spartans cut the Pilgrim lead to just one with Nicole Adams scoring her third goal of the season assisted by Purinton just minutes later. The Pilgrims grabbed an insurance goal late as Danielle Taylor converted on a Pilgrim power-play opportunity with just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation. 

Picking up the win in goal for the Pilgrims was Mary Roux who finished the afternoon with 29 saves.  Castleton's Vanessa Carter stopped 34 Pilgrim shots on the afternoon.
