Castleton wins VSC Tournament 77-72 over Johnson State; Reilly named Most Valuable Player, Cayea All-Tournament

Randolph, VT-Richard Reilly and Kevin Cayea helped the Castleton State College men's basketball team cap off the Vermont State Colleges Championship, scoring 21 and 19 points respectively in a 77-72 win over Johnson State.

Castleton struggled in the early going, falling behind 37-23 after the first half. The Spartans would score 54 points over the final 20 minutes to earn the championship win over the Badgers and improve to 6-4 on the season.

Reilly added 7 assists to his MVP performance, while Cayea was 10-18 from beyond the three-point arc over the two games, in earning all-tournament honors.

Bobby Shedd tallied 21 points and eight rebounds for 3-6 Johnson State. Charlie Viana joined Shedd n double figures with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Josh Howe added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Chris Young chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds. Joey Farley rounded out the scorers in double-figures with 11.

Castleton will return home on Wednesday, January 9 to play host to SUNYIT at 7:00 pm.
