Rutland, VT-Kalla Robb recorded her first career shutout as Castleton defeated Plymouth State 5-0 in an ECAC East women's hockey showdown. The Spartans dominated play, out-shooting their guests 74-23.
Maryanne Diehm put the Spartans up 1-0 with 30 seconds left to play in the first period. Kayla Twigge scored the first of her two goals in the second to make it 2-0 in favor of the Spartans.
Plymouth State goalie, Lindsay DeLorie, did her best to give the Panthers a chance to get back in the game but the Spartan offensive was too much.
Castleton netted three goals in the third. Brittany Pressey, Kate Gray, and Twigge all put the puck past DeLorie to finish the scoring.
Robb finished the shutout with 23 stops for the Spartans. DeLorie stopped an amazing 69 of 74, a .932 save percentage.
The Spartans improve to 5-7-3 (4-4-3) as they host SUNY-Oswego Sunday, January 27 for a 3:00 non-conference game.
Plymouth St. is off until February 1 when they host St. Anselm for an ECAC East game at 6:00 pm.
