Castleton defeats Salve Regina 3-1 in ECAC East action

Rutland, VT-Adrianna Riggio scored one goal and added one assist to lead Castleton State College to a 3-1 win over Salve Regina in ECAC East women's ice hockey action.

Castleton improves to 4-7-3 overall and 3-4-3 in conference action with the win.

Maryanne Diehm put the Spartans on the board first as she made good on a power-play, assisted by Riggio and Cassandra Koehne 12:59 into the first period.

The Seahawks answered in the second half with a power-play goal of  their own as Caitlin Campbell scored unassisted with just under 10 minutes remaining.

From that point on it was all Castleton as Riggio tallied the game-winner 7:18 into the final period off a Charl May assist. Amy Costa score her first collegiate goal with just under six minutes remaining to round out the scoring.

Vanessa Carter stopped 39 shots in the win. Tamsin Gosselin stopped 32 in the loss as Salve Regina slips to 4-9-1 overall and 3-5-0 in conference play.

Castleton returns to the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse Saturday, January 26 when they host Plymouth State in ECAC East action. Salve Regina will travel to UMass-Boston on Saturday as well.
