Rutland, VT-Vanessa Carter stopped 34 shots in earning her first shut-out of the season as the Castleton women's ice hockey team defeated Southern Maine 2-0 in ECAC East action at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse. The win stretches Castleton's unbeaten streak to four games, and improves their record to 2-2-3 (1-0-3 ECAC East) marking the team's best start in its brief history.

Carter stopped 11 shots in the first period, in preserving the 0-0 tie through the first 20 minutes of action. Freshman, Courtney Leavitt tallied what would prove to be the game-winner 8:50 into the second period off an assist from Adrianna Riggio.

The goal would be all Carter and the tough Spartan defense would need as the junior goalie stopped 11 more in the second period and 12 in the third to round out her evening. Castleton killed off all seven power-play opportunities the Huskies were provided.

In the final period, Castleton made good on a power-play as Steph Purinton sent home her second goal of the season off assists from Katelyn Greene and Nicole Adams.

Allison Woods stopped 13 shots in the loss for 2-3-0 (2-2-0 ECAC East) Southern Maine.

The Huskies return to action December 4 when they travel to Colby College for a 7:00 pm non-conference tilt. Castleton will travel to St. Anselm on December 8 for a 7:00 pm ECAC East match-up.
