Rutland, VT-The Castleton State College women's ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with visiting New England College at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse. The tie is the third consecutive for the Spartans and pushes their record to 1-2-3 overall and 0-0-3 in ECAC East play. New England College is now 1-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference action.

New England College's Sarah Graham would open the scoring 9:42 into the first period with a power-play goal assisted by Elizabeth Ross and Jana Schneider. Vanessa Carter would turn away 10 shots in the period for the Spartans, while Pilgrim goalie, Mary Roux stopped five.

The Spartans tallied the equalizer on their own power-play with less than nine minutes remaining in the second period on Adrianna Riggio's second goal of the season, assisted by Maryanne Diehm. The Pilgrims would waste little time, regaining the lead under a minute later as Schneider slipped one past Carter, assisted by Sarah Tracey.

Riggio would once again tie the game, this time in the third period, assisted by Meaghan Roach. Tracey would put the Pilgrims ahead by one with just over 10 minutes remaining in the contest, her fourth goal of the season. The Spartans would find themselves on the power-play with under seven to go, and Steph Purinto, Castleton's all-time leading goal scorer, would send the game to overtime.

In overtime, neither team could gain a distinct advantage, and only the Pilgrims could muster a pair of shots on net, both were turned away by Carter. On the night Carter stopped 33 shots, while Roux turned away 30.

The Spartans return to their home ice Saturday afternoon, hosting Southern Maine at 3:00 pm. The Pilgrims will travel to Plymouth State on Saturday for a 6:00 pm face-off.
