Box Score Middlebury, VT-The Castleton State College men's basketball team fell 91-74 on the road at Middlebury to drop its season record to 1-2. Despite placing three players in double-figures led by Rich Reilly's 19, the Spartans could not overcome a 53-37 disparity in the rebound column.
Andrew Harris scored a game-high 26 points, including six three-point field goals to lead the 3-1 Panthers.
Middlebury led by one before going on an 8-0 run to take a 25-16 lead with 9:50 remaining in the first half. Aaron Smith scored five of his 17 points during the spurt. Castleton cut the lead to four before the Panthers closed the half on an 11-4 run, behind eight points from Harris, to take a 43-32 lead into the intermission.
The Spartans cut the advantage to four on a three from Joey Farley at the 15:07 mark of the second session, but that's as close as they'd come as the Panthers held a double-digit lead for a majority of the half.
Joining Reilly in double-figures for Castleton were Josh Howe (17) and Alden Gregory (15). Reilly canned five three-pointers while Hoe and Gregory each added three.
Castleton will play its home opener on Saturday at 2:00 pm when they host Skidmore in non-conference action.
