Castleton salvages weekend split, defeats Maine Maritime 76-57

Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College men's basketball team jumped out to a commanding 50-17 halftime lead and held on for the 76-57 win. The Spartans placed four players in double figures led by Jeremy Jorgensen's 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Brandon Hall led Maine Maritime with 14 points and 7 rebounds, but a tenacious defensive first half was enough to keep the Mariners at bay. Castleton's Joey Farley followed Jorgensen in the scoring column with 16, while Kevin Cayea and Rich Reilly chipped in 11 and 10 respectively. Derek DeFrederico and Adam Haskell each added 12 points for the 7-6 (3-3 NAC) Mariners.

With the win Castleton improves to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Spartans will play host to Johnson State College on Tuesday. The Mariners are back in action next Saturday when the will host St. Joseph's ( Me.) at 3:00.
