Rutland, VT-Castleton fell to 0-7 in the ECAC East with a Sunday afternoon loss at the hands of Southern Maine. The Spartans took a 4-2 lead early in the third period thanks to goals by Steph Purinton and Adrianna Riggio. The Huskies weren't finished, however, as they scored three unanswered goals, two by Caitlin Tassone to steal the win on the road.

Kelly Connors opened the scoring in the first period with just under 10 minutes remaining with Southern Maine attacking on a power-play. Jenna Stanley assisted on Connors's second goal of the season. Castleton would even the score before the first intermission when Colleen Senecal fed Melanie Dickson for the equalizer. Katelyn Greene wasted little time in the second period, scoring just 26 seconds into the frame for her seventh tally of the year. Adrianna Riggio and Maryanne Diehm assisted on the go-ahead score. Less than two minutes later Amy McNally scored to tie the score at two, and the game would remain tied until the final period. The Spartans appeared to take control in the third period on Purinton and Riggio's back-to-back goals in a span of five minutes just about halfway into the period, but Southern Maine came roaring back. Brittany George scored to bring the Huskies within one, and Tassone scored her first two goals of the season to give Southern Maine the hard-fought victory.

Vaness Carter stopped 24 shots in the loss as the Spartans fell to 2-7 (0-7 ECAC East). Jen Arno made 20 saves as Southern Maine improved to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in ECAC East play. Castleton returns to the ice next weekend when they travel to Rochester Institute of Technology for a 7:00 PM face-off on Saturday evening and a 2:00 PM start on Sunday afternoon. Southern Maine is back in action on Friday, December 8 when they play host to ECAC East foe, Manhattanville at 7:00 PM.
