Castleton falls in home opener 88-87 to Plymouth State.

Castleton, VT-Castleton's Rich Reilly gave the Spartans and 87-85 lead with 31 seconds remaining, but Plymouth's Phil Bourassa sent a long pass over the defense that hit Mike Walcek in stride for a lay-up plus a foul that gave the Panthers the one point lead. Castleton took the clock all the way down to 3.1 seconds before Reilly missed a pull-up jump shot in the lane, forcing the Spartans to foul. Plymouth would miss the ensuing front end of their 1 and 1, giving Castleton a chance to go the length of the court in the final 1.5 seconds. The inbounds pass was knocked out of the air, however, preserving the one-point win for the visiting Panthers.

Plymouth's Devin Ruocco led the Panthers with 29 points, including 7-10 shooting from beyond the three-point stripe. Leading the Spartans was Jeremy Jorgensen with a double-double 26 points and 14 rebounds. Plymouth placed four other players in double figures, including 18 from Walcek and 10 from Bourassa who also had seven assists. Reilly had 23 points and four assists, while Kevin Cayea chipped in 14 off the bench.

With the win the Panthers improve to 3-0 and will face off against Colby-Sawyer College at NHTI on Tuesday, November 28. Castleton falls to 1-2 and is also back in action on the 28 th when they play host to Middlebury.
