Erin Murphy begins her first year as a Graduate Assistant Coach for men's soccer at Vermont State University - Castleton this fall. A 2024 graduate of the University of Vermont with a degree in public communications and a minor in economics, Murphy was a 2-year starter for the Catamounts after transferring from the University of Buffalo. Over her career in Burlington, she started 27 of 28 games, earned a 1.70 GAA, a .735 save percentage with 5 shutouts and was a member of the America East Academic Honor Roll.
Murphy was a 2-year co-President of the UVM Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and as a graduate student was awarded the prestigious Semans Trophy presented to the UVM male and female student-athlete who has demonstrated a high level of athletic achievement and earned the respect and regard of his/her fellow students for leadership, loyalty and service to the University.
“We are immensely fortunate to have a person of Erin’s caliber on staff here at Castleton” said Head Coach John O’Connor. “She is an energetic, competitive and knowledgeable player and more importantly an outstanding person”. O’Connor went on to say, “She is a proven winner and will add tremendously to the already strong culture of the team.”
A native of South Wantagh, NY, Murphy played club soccer for Albertson Fury under head coach Paul Riley. During her club career her teams won the New York Club Soccer League state cup title, were the National Elite Winter Soccer Showcase Tournament champions and led her team to an appearance in the 2017 US Club Soccer Nationals. She also played for Wantagh High School where she was a 3-year captain and the conference goalkeeper of the year as a senior.
No stranger to Head Coach John O’Connor, Murphy played three summers for Coach OC on the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Vermont Fusion out of Manchester, VT. There she was an East Region and National Player of the Week selection was named to the conference Best XI, leading the team to the 2021 Metropolitan Conference and 2022 Northeastern Conference championships. Her 2022 squad advanced to WPSL National Quarterfinal that season.
Murphy holds a US Soccer D Coaching License, has been a staff member of the Vermont Olympic Development Program as well as coached at Nordic Soccer Club. Her responsibilities with the Spartans include daily on-field coaching, practice and game planning, recruiting, scouting, team travel as well as overseeing academics for the team. She is pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Leadership at VTSU-Castleton.
