FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Castleton University women's track & field team came in 12th out of 19 teams in attendance at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State on Saturday.
Ally Stearns and Iyanna Williams both set a personal best in the hammer throw. They finished in sixth and eighth out of 23, respectively, with throws of 42.45 meters (139'3") and 39.92 meters (131'0"). Williams was also 12th of 40 in the discus with a heave of 28.51 meters (93'6").
Emily Maier earned a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:13.94. She was also 21st in the 100-meter dash in 14.75 seconds and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.41 seconds. Lydia Maier placed sixth in the 800-meter run out of 35 in 2:33.30.
Bronwen Hopwood placed in the top-15 in three events, including a pair of top-ten results. She was ninth in the long jump in the field of 29 with a distance of 4.76 meters (15'7.5") and 10th of 42 in the 200-meter dash in 28.98. She was also 14th in the 100-meter dash clocking in with a time of 14.44 seconds.
The Spartans were 12th in team points with 13 points. Keene State won the team ranking with 146 points. They were followed by New Haven (133.5 points), Rhode Island College (124 points), Bridgewater State (103.5 points), and Salve Regina (61 points) to round out the top five.
Castleton returns to action on Saturday, April 12 at the Second Annual Penmen Relays at Southern New Hampshire University.
