Women's Tennis Loses Little East Conference Match to UMass-Dartmouth

CASTLETON, Vt. -- On a warm Saturday afternoon, the Castleton University women's tennis team took the courts to face UMass-Dartmouth in a Little East Conference contest. The Spartans were able to hang around but ultimately fell 9-0. With the loss today, the Spartans fall to 2-5 (0-3 LEC) while the Corsairs improve to 5-1 (1-1 LEC). 

The Spartans fell behind early after doubles play even though the team was able to collect 14 total games. The first flight of Megan Nadler and Regina Marchese won three games in an 8-3 loss to Lauren Morgart and Jaime Fastino. The second flight of Emily Miller and Megan Hunt won the most games as they dropped a heartbreaking 8-6 decision. The third flight of Grace Sharkey and Alexis Curley took five games from Natasha Shiku and Hana Hershey in an 8-5 loss.

Singles play began and the Spartans were poised to tie it up. Nadler took on Morgart at first singles and was in the match the entire way. After dropping the first set 6-4, Nadler came back from a 5-1 deficit in the second set before falling 6-4. 

The Spartans continued to fight as Miller took six games as she fell 6-2, 6-4 at second singles.  

Marchese competed at fourth singles and after dropping the first set 6-1, she battled hard in the second before dropping the set 7-5. 

Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans was Hunt falling 6-0, 6-0 at third singles, Sharkey dropping a 6-0, 6-1 decision at fifth singles, and Curley falling 6-1, 6-1 at sixth singles.

Women's tennis will return to action on Tuesday, September 24 as it takes on Plymouth State in a Little East Conference matchup at Holderness School.
