Spartans Open Conference Play With Third-Straight Win

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team swept the board for the second straight match with a 9-0 win over the Green Mountain Eagles this afternoon.

With the win, Castleton improves to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the conference while Green Mountain falls to 0-3 and 0-1.

Ciara Bannister set the tone early for the Spartans with back-to-back 6-2 wins in No. 1 singles action. Megan Nadler won in No. 2 singles with a 6-2 win followed by a tightly-contested win in the second match by a final score of 7-5. Kirsten Kruk and Emily Miller both won in straight-sets by scores of 6-0. Kayla Zsido and Monika Plante also picked up wins in Nos. 4 and 5 singles action, respectively.  

In doubles action, the Spartans were led by strong performances from all three groups. Bannister and Nadler got things going with an impressive 8-2 win in first-flight, while Kruk and Zsido followed with the same score in the victory. Alexis Curley and Jennifer Blay played in third-flight doubles, defeating their opponent 8-1.

After a season-opening loss, Castleton has collected three consecutive wins to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Spartans will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 when they will host Colby-Sawyer in a NAC East matchup.
